2 GOP Senators Want New Iraq Strategy

Washington, DC - The Associated Press reports that two leading Republican Senators have come out against President Bush's failed stay-the-course strategy in Iraq. Senator Chuck Hagel and Senator John Warner joined the growing number of Americans opposed to the Administration's current strategy as sectarian violence continues to escalate, placing American troops in the middle. Democrats reject President Bush's stay-the-course strategy and want a new direction in Iraq that is both tough and smart.

DNC Voting Rights Institute Chair Donna Brazile Calls on Election Assistance Commission to Release Study

Washington, DC- This afternoon the Chair of the Democratic National Committee's Voting Rights Institute (VRI), Donna Brazile, testified before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights on issues of voter fraud and voter intimidation. During her testimony Brazile called on the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to release a report that proves there is little evidence of the polling-place fraud that is used to justify Voter ID around the country. Donna Brazile discouraged the new wave of Republican voter intimidation tactics and modern poll taxes enacted through restrictive Voter ID laws.

Washington, DC - Disgraced Ohio Republican Congressman Bob Ney today finally pled guilty to felony charges of conspiracy and making false statements after taking tens of thousands of dollars worth of trips, sports tickets, campaign contributions, meals and casino chips from convicted Republican super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff. This is just the latest example of the ever-growing Republican culture of corruption. Ney's conviction follows the conviction of former GOP Congressman Duke Cunningham, the resignation of former Republican House leader Tom DeLay and the eruption of numerous scandals surrounding a number of Republicans in Washington. At the same time, Republicans in Congress have consistently blocked ethics reform packages proposed by Democrats.

Washington, DC - Last week, House Republican Speaker Denny Hastert said that the buck stops with him when it comes to the cover-up of the scandal involving disgraced former GOP Congressman Mark Foley. He then went on to say that he hadn't "done anything wrong." Today, during his second press conference on the matter, Hastert again refused to take responsibility for the Foley cover-up. He blamed his staff, said nothing wrong was done and then said that the scandal was not significant because Foley's contact with some of the Congressional pages happened after they left Washington.

According to the Associated Press, for the last five years, Allen "has failed to tell Congress about stock options he got for his work as a director of a high-tech company."
