Truthout is a nonprofit news organization dedicated to providing independent reporting and commentary on a diverse range of social justice issues. Since our founding in 2001, we have anchored our work in principles of accuracy, transparency, and independence from the influence of corporate and political forces. Your support helps us continue to do the vital work of publishing award-winning independent journalism.

Whether you can give $10 a month or $50,000 a year, your gift provides the kind of sustainable funding publications like ours need to survive, and ensures we can continue amplifying the voices of activists, scientists, scholars and truth-tellers from across the nation.

You can make a one-time or monthly donation by credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Venmo or Google Pay here. Or, read about some of our other ways to give below.

Planned Giving & Bequests

By bequeathing a gift to Truthout in your will or revocable trust, you’re empowering us to make a difference in the lives of future generations.

In planning your bequest, you can either plan to deliver a specific dollar amount or asset to Truthout, or you can give us a percentage of the balances remaining in your estate after taxes and the payment of specific bequests.

A few examples:

Specific Bequest: “I bequeath Thirty Thousand ($30,000) Dollars [or: all my Chrysler stock] to Truthout, a non-profit organization incorporated in Sacramento, California.”

Residuary Bequest: “I bequeath Five Percent (5%) of the residue of my estate to Truthout, a non-profit organization incorporated in Sacramento, California.”

Contingent Bequest: “If my daughter-in-law does not survive me or is unable to inherit this bequest, I direct that it be paid to Truthout, a non-profit organization incorporated in Sacramento, California.”

Please email us at support@truthout.org or call us at (877) 766-6476 if you have any questions.

Underwrite a Challenge Grant

If you or your organization would like to make a substantial donation we will challenge our readers to match your gift during an upcoming campaign! Just send us an email at support@truthout.org after you’ve made your donation.

Give Stocks or Bonds

A charitable contribution of long-term appreciated securities — i.e. stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that have realized significant appreciation over time — is one of the most tax-efficient of all ways to give and can now be done directly on our site by clicking here.

If you’ve held an appreciated stock or mutual fund for more than one year, you can donate those securities to Truthout and receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities, eliminating any capital gains assessments on the future sale of the securities (in some cases, more than 20%). Click here to view instructions for transferring stock to Truthout.

Non-Monetary Assistance

You can help by recommending Truthout to your friends and colleagues, forwarding them articles, and sharing our stories on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
