Don't Let Dirty Drilling Frack Up New York's Clean Water

by: John Sellers  |  StandUpNewYork.org | Video

Everyone is talking about Natural Gas, our newest greenest most homegrown and secure source of American Energy....

NOT!

"Clean" "Natural" Gas is neither.

Gas extraction, made possible by hydraulic fracturing (or fracking for short) has to sit right beside Deep Sea Drilling, and Dirty Tar Sands Oil in the pantheon of insane ways to get our fossil fuel fix.

Did you know that Halliburton (yes that Halliburton) patented fracking: a process that mixes millions of gallons of precious fresh water with a proprietary cocktail of toxics, injects it through our drinking water table, and into the ground at a pressure that will fracture rock?

Did you know that when (ex-Halliburton CEO) Dick Cheney was VP he slipped a fracking exemption into the Safe Drinking Water Act?

Stand Up, New York!

Fracking has brought the gas rush to New York. Some of the biggest and dirtiest names in Big Oil are coming to frack us. And under current rules, we can expect much the same dirty drilling that has polluted water in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, Colorado, etc, etc.

Who will be at risk? Everyone downstream. Including the drinking water of tens of million in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

This is a great, BRIEF

This is a great, BRIEF introduction to fracking that can be sent to people who still don't know what's about to happen to our city and state...if we don't do something about it right now. People should get in touch with grassroots organizations like ny-h2o and Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter, Damascus Citizens for Sustainability, google waterunderattack.com and go from there. Lots of people are working on this but more are needed. The gas industry is very rich and very determined to become much, much richer.

I know of at least one PA

I know of at least one PA politician who has taken campaign money from Halliburton for this coming election. Those people are padding the future for more fracking...

Well the first step is

Well the first step is removing the exemption from the Clean Water Act...hello!
When we hear something like this had been slipped into a bill, is when we should immediately remove it and be done with it.
We sit back and let them do anything they feel like...are we crazy or lazy?

We're neither crazy nor

We're neither crazy nor lazy. We don't live in a democracy. We have no right of recall for elected officials at the federal level, so we can't hold them accountable during their terms of office--which is the ONLY time they're supposed to represent us. Electing new officials we can't hold accountable after the ones in office have already done irreparable damage, isn't a way to hold anyone accountable or to have a voice in government. All it does is empower new officials we can't hold accountable.

Of course Obama is protecting Bush and Cheney from prosecution under Eichmann's failed Nuremberg defense theory that those who were just following orders shouldn't be punished. And Cheney and Obama are obviously following orders--from Halliburton, from BP, from every big multinational corporation in the world.

Go frack yourself, Mr. Cheney.

And you too, Mr. Obama.

Does anything that slimy

Does anything that slimy snake Cheney did surprise anyone? Just remember he is the heart of GOP folks. The man with no heart lives on.
