David Bacon on How US Policies Fueled the Great Mexican Migration

Thursday, 22 March 2012 13:49 By Thorne Dreyer, Rag Radio | Audio Segment

Noted journalist, author, documentary photographer, and long-time labor organizer David Bacon discussed the issues raised in his provocative and heavily-researched article, "How U.S. Policies Fueled the Great Mexican Migration." Now based in California, Bacon was a union organizer for two decades, and today documents the changing conditions in the workforce, the impact of the global economy, war and migration, and the struggle for human rights. His books include "Illegal People: How Globalization Creates Migration and Criminalizes Immigrants" (Beacon Press, 2008), "The Children of NAFTA" (University of California Press, 2004), and "Communities Without Borders" (Cornell University Press, 2006). He belongs to the Pacific Media Workers Guild and the CWA, and was an organizer of the Free South Africa Labor Committee, the Labor Immigrant Organizers Network, and board chair of the Northern California Coalition for Immigrant Rights.
