Come on, now. Obama hasn't accomplished anything noteworthy. The stimulus was woefully inadequate and he hasn't done anything that has any chance of improving the job situation. His health care bill is a giant giveaway to the health insurance companies and Big PhRMA, which isn't surprising since it was written by an insurance company insider who is also writing the regs. 23 million people will still be uninsured and thousands will continue to die each month before their time because they lack insurance AFTER the bill goes into effect in 2014. And then there's the damn mandate no one can afford, no cost controls, and no public option, which exactly the result he wanted!

FinReg is a bad joke and Obama probably won't appoint Elizabeth Warren to head her Consumer Financial Protection Agency because Geithner is throwing a snit fit about her embarrassing him for his conflict of interest shenanigans with AIG when he was at the N.Y. Fed that should land him jail.

Then there's Obama's unlawful and unnecessary war in Afghanistan using drones that have slaughtered more than 1,000 innocents.

And there's his war on civil liberties and his unwavering protection of the Bush-Cheney torture administration.

And that's just for starters.

I repeat; Obama has accomplished nothing significant. He's a terrible president. If I had wanted a Republican president, I would have voted for McCain-Palin.

Under no circumstances will I vote for Barack Obama ever again, or for that matter, anyone who supports his horrific record.

McClatchy propaganda is a big surprise. Obama has exhibited his hostility for the health of the general public since taking office. The "bail out" was a swindle of epic proportions, the health reform bill is a cynical piece as deceptive as Bush's "clear sky initiative, trillions have been lavished on financial institutions while their victims are evicted from their homes and virtually every US industry being favored by the Obama administration is one hostile towards the citizens of this country.

There is simply no credible evidence to indicate Obama has any intention of discontinuing policies accelerating the decline of the US middle class or the plight of Wall Street's victims.

Obama is a wolf and his coterie proves it.

Obama's refusal to prosecute the war criminals of the Bush regime and his continuation of the policies of secret prisons, rendition, and (probably) torture have allowed the Republicans to come back like they never did anything wrong, rather than hiding in shame until a decent interval has passed. Add to that the fact that, except for Elizabeth Warren, his economic team consists of "Sons of the Vampire Squid" and is it any wonder most of us are disappointed? Or that Ben Nelson, Olympia Snow, Mary Landrieu, and Susan Collins must be kowtowed to get anything through Congress?
Couple that with his surrendering the high ground before the battle is joined---on healthcare, energy, and Wall Street reform---and we have to wonder is the man remotely even competent at anything besides public speaking? Hillary at least has a spine; Obama has yet to show he does.

Has done a lot, and shilled wherever possible. Underachiever by my way of thinking, and while there has been change, corruption, lies and lack of accountability (including a failure to correct past wrongs through criminal prosecutions) just goes to show, a bit of change, but the same old politics.

What a sorry collection of armchair quarterbacks! Clearly President John McCain and VP Sarah Palin would have been SO MUCH BETTER! And today the majority of Americans would be SO MUCH HAPPIER AND CONTENT.

I'm so tired of these caricatures of the healthcare plan. First off, it's *NOT* "Obamacare" as the right would have it. The legislation was crafted by, duh, the legislative branch. Second, the Right whines that it's "socialism" while the Far Left whines that it's just a gift to capitalist insurance entrepreneurs! So, which is it? Well, of course, neither. Both sides reduce the complex realities of the legislation to a mere sound byte and miss the irony that their bytes contradict one another.

Let's call it Baucus-care - does that work?
Insurance entrepreneurs? Insurance is ancient, like prostitution. When you don't have Adam Smith's invisible hand, instead you have Gubbmint subsidizing Health Inc, that ain't no good, that's a ripoff.

P.S.---Obama and the White House draft a lot of the legislation for Congress to pass, something that should be considered to be an extreme conflict of interest; but which, in the phantasmagorical country and world we live in now, is considered "acceptable" and "normal". Man, are we all screwed if the deep in avoidance and denial of what's really going on screwballs don't completely wake the hell up, completely face what is really happening, and we all (or most of us anyway) don't rise up and put a total stop to it.

Btw, "separate but equal" means that all three branches of the U.S. government have an equal level of power. It does NOT mean that the Executive Branch (the Presidency) has ANY authority to usurp or carry out the duties of the Legislative Branch (the Congress); in fact, it means that they do NOT have such authority because Congress is supposed to be separate from the Executive Branch, and vise versa.

It is Congress' duty to legislate, or draft and make the laws, NOT the Presidency; but, today, we have a "unitary executive" which IS unconstitutionally usurping the power delegated to Congress alone to be the lawmakers, by itself drafting and enacting unconstitutional, so-called "laws, many if not most of which contradict and violate the Constitution and the laws of both the Legislative Branch (Congress) AND the Judicial Branch (the U.S. Supreme Court), which is treason that all such "Presidents" and other occupiers of the White House MUST, not simply "can", be impeached under the impeachment DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS of the U.S. Constitution, for "high crimes" against the People of the United States.

We, the People CANNOT allow this, and the failure to impeach all such traitors, to continue; and it is our responsibility to at least try to put a stop to it, and see to it that they are impeached as REQUIRED by the U.S. Constitution.

Obama's huge campaign contributions from the same interests that normally support Republicans should have alerted us to the fact that he is nothing more than a hired one-term stand-in to take all the blame for war, recession, business fraud, environmental disasters, loss of rights, etc. Why do you think he was so anxious to go to war, so openly contradicted his campaign promises, so blatantly threw key constituencies under his bus, and devised legislation that is almost guaranteed to turn out badly. In 2012, liberated from their past by Obama's blatant assumption of responsibility of all their mistakes, the Republicans can return and get back to their unadulterated rape and pillage.
In the meantime, I first wish liberal apologist would stop inferring that the healthcare bill, financial reform, Copenhagen, the energy bill, or any other piece of special interest-authored legislation as anything but the maximum business thought they could put over on us. Also, please stop this "McCain and Palin would have been worse" stuff. Of course they would have been worse, but they were put there to not win. The Republicans had already hired Obama to use the four years of his term to take responsibility for all their mistakes. I guarantee you a more respectable Republican ticket will appear in 2012 to do us in once and for all.

Our problems (and Obama's) mostly revolve around three serious problems. Our current atmosphere is significantly driven by mismanaged passion, unrecognized or willful ignorance and malice in various forms. This article offers no real insight (like most).

Agreed with Mr. Thomma that Obama is "building a record of major legislation that's sure to make a mark on history." Realistically speaking, Obama is the most progressive president in recent history. But he has to work within a constricting framework that necessitates compromise--and it simply takes a good bit of time to get things done. The Left, which is always prone to discouragement, pessimism, and throwing in the towel way too soon, needs to understand that more clearly. Remind me what the REALISTIC alternative to Obama is? Certainly not the candidate that will be on the GOP ticket in 2012. I'm in this fight against the right wing for the long haul, and I'm supporting President Obama--with qualifications but without apologies.
