As someone who has been working since 1983 to reform US foreign policy so that it reflects the values and interests of the majority of Americans, I'm keenly aware of how the conduct of big media has been a key obstacle to the reforms we seek.
Big media constrain our ability to achieve victories for social justice, not just by what they report and don't report, but by where they put emphasis. They bury important news where most people won't see it, filling top slots with “infotainment” while exposure of corporate power grabs and government deception are relegated to the back pages.
Truthout brings us important news for changing our society to make it more just, puts that news front and center, and does it every day. Since Truthout is funded by readers and not by corporations, corporate interests don't determine which stories make the front page.
