Dear President Obama,
Do you really want to be the new "war president"? If you go to West Point tomorrow night (Tuesday, 8pm) and announce that you are increasing, rather than withdrawing, the troops in Afghanistan, you are the new war president. Pure and simple. And with that you will do the worst possible thing you could do -- destroy the hopes and dreams so many millions have placed in you. With just one speech tomorrow night you will turn a multitude of young people who were the backbone of your campaign into disillusioned cynics. You will teach them what they've always heard is true -- that all politicians are alike. I simply can't believe you're about to do what they say you are going to do. Please say it isn't so.

It is not your job to do what the generals tell you to do. We are a civilian-run government. WE tell the Joint Chiefs what to do, not the other way around. That's the way General Washington insisted it must be. That's what President Truman told General MacArthur when MacArthur wanted to invade China. "You're fired!," said Truman, and that was that. And you should have fired Gen. McChrystal when he went to the press to preempt you, telling the press what YOU had to do. Let me be blunt: We love our kids in the armed services, but we f*#&in' hate these generals, from Westmoreland in Vietnam to, yes, even Colin Powell for lying to the UN with his made-up drawings of WMD (he has since sought redemption).

So now you feel backed into a corner. 30 years ago this past Thursday (Thanksgiving) the Soviet generals had a cool idea -- "Let's invade Afghanistan!" Well, that turned out to be the final nail in the USSR coffin.

There's a reason they don't call Afghanistan the "Garden State" (though they probably should, seeing how the corrupt President Karzai, whom we back, has his brother in the heroin trade raising poppies). Afghanistan's nickname is the "Graveyard of Empires." If you don't believe it, give the British a call. I'd have you call Genghis Khan but I lost his number. I do have Gorbachev's number though. It's + 41 22 789 1662. I'm sure he could give you an earful about the historic blunder you're about to commit.

With our economic collapse still in full swing and our precious young men and women being sacrificed on the altar of arrogance and greed, the breakdown of this great civilization we call America will head, full throttle, into oblivion if you become the "war president." Empires never think the end is near, until the end is here. Empires think that more evil will force the heathens to toe the line -- and yet it never works. The heathens usually tear them to shreds.

Choose carefully, President Obama. You of all people know that it doesn't have to be this way. You still have a few hours to listen to your heart, and your own clear thinking. You know that nothing good can come from sending more troops halfway around the world to a place neither you nor they understand, to achieve an objective that neither you nor they understand, in a country that does not want us there. You can feel it in your bones.

I know you know that there are LESS than a hundred al-Qaeda left in Afghanistan! A hundred thousand troops trying to crush a hundred guys living in caves? Are you serious? Have you drunk Bush's Kool-Aid? I refuse to believe it.

Your potential decision to expand the war (while saying that you're doing it so you can "end the war") will do more to set your legacy in stone than any of the great things you've said and done in your first year. One more throwing a bone from you to the Republicans and the coalition of the hopeful and the hopeless may be gone -- and this nation will be back in the hands of the haters quicker than you can shout "tea bag!"

Choose carefully, Mr. President. Your corporate backers are going to abandon you as soon as it is clear you are a one-term president and that the nation will be safely back in the hands of the usual idiots who do their bidding. That could be Wednesday morning.

We the people still love you. We the people still have a sliver of hope. But we the people can't take it anymore. We can't take your caving in, over and over, when we elected you by a big, wide margin of millions to get in there and get the job done. What part of "landslide victory" don't you understand?

Don't be deceived into thinking that sending a few more troops into Afghanistan will make a difference, or earn you the respect of the haters. They will not stop until this country is torn asunder and every last dollar is extracted from the poor and soon-to-be poor. You could send a million troops over there and the crazy Right still wouldn't be happy. You would still be the victim of their incessant venom on hate radio and television because no matter what you do, you can't change the one thing about yourself that sends them over the edge.

The haters were not the ones who elected you, and they can't be won over by abandoning the rest of us.

President Obama, it's time to come home. Ask your neighbors in Chicago and the parents of the young men and women doing the fighting and dying if they want more billions and more troops sent to Afghanistan. Do you think they will say, "No, we don't need health care, we don't need jobs, we don't need homes. You go on ahead, Mr. President, and send our wealth and our sons and daughters overseas, 'cause we don't need them, either."

What would Martin Luther King, Jr. do? What would your grandmother do? Not send more poor people to kill other poor people who pose no threat to them, that's what they'd do. Not spend billions and trillions to wage war while American children are sleeping on the streets and standing in bread lines.

All of us that voted and prayed for you and cried the night of your victory have endured an Orwellian hell of eight years of crimes committed in our name: torture, rendition, suspension of the bill of rights, invading nations who had not attacked us, blowing up neighborhoods that Saddam "might" be in (but never was), slaughtering wedding parties in Afghanistan. We watched as hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians were slaughtered and tens of thousands of our brave young men and women were killed, maimed, or endured mental anguish -- the full terror of which we scarcely know.

When we elected you we didn't expect miracles. We didn't even expect much change. But we expected some. We thought you would stop the madness. Stop the killing. Stop the insane idea that men with guns can reorganize a nation that doesn't even function as a nation and never, ever has.

Stop, stop, stop! For the sake of the lives of young Americans and Afghan civilians, stop. For the sake of your presidency, hope, and the future of our nation, stop. For God's sake, stop.

Tonight we still have hope.

Tomorrow, we shall see. The ball is in your court. You DON'T have to do this. You can be a profile in courage. You can be your mother's son.

We're counting on you.

Yours,
Michael Moore

My son is struggling with

My son is struggling with depression, delusion and contemplates himself as a loser due to the effects of being a Marine in the Iraq war. He suffers every waking and often sleeping moment of every day of his young 28 year old life. He is an extremely capable, well above average intelligent, physically fit, good looking kind young man. That is unable to realize his own potential due to the mental ravages of war. Please, NO MORE WAR. We must stop. Stop sending our vibrant youth away only to return severed at the own ability to find peace in themselves. Spend the money and effort on rehabilitating those who have put their life on the line for the belief of a free and valid country, our country, their country. Please Mr. President make the bold and necessary statement tomorrow night that will set and change history. I will send no more to war. Think of your own daughters and ask your gut would you be willing to sacrifice their well being and death?

Get ready to weep. Obama is

Get ready to weep. Obama is (probably) going to throw himself (and us) into the quagmire. I can't think of a more bitter betrayal than this, and I think it proves that EVEN elections are pointless. The Warmongers are the only ones who have any say in how this world is run. Get used to it.

Sorry, Michael. Too

Sorry, Michael. Too late. Captive of Wall Street, of the generals, and--apparently--of Olympia Snowe (!), Obama is our one term bipartisan bystander. As hideous as Hillary is, I wish I'd voted for her. At least I'd have known what I was getting.

I am as sick of the

I am as sick of the situation in Afghanistan as everyone is. And we indeed cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past. But in our war exhaustion, we are forgetting the original mistake we made in Afghanistan-dropping it like a bad habit once it was no longer of any use to our nation. I believe the last thing President Obama wants is to get the United States held down in a situation like George Bush did. BUT, we simply can't yank out completely and leave the situation completely open there. That will create the next generation of al qaeda, just as such an action did twenty years ago. Obama seems to be trying to work a middle ground strategy of a TEMPORARY expansion followed by a phased withdrawal. Most definitely not the most pleasant option, but probably the safest.

Perhaps George W. Bush left

Perhaps George W. Bush left us a better legacy than we had perceived during his administration. Perhaps what George W. Bush left us with an example of the massive debt loading created by the "free markets" and military on the people of the United States, to the point that the Republicans of today want to shelve Health Care reform and Cap and Trade for a later date, perhaps when they hope to hold both Houses of Congress. I would find it quite daunting, as President Dwight David Eisenhower did, to fight a fully formed movement of militarism and political ideology. The defeat of Barry Goldwater ended the old Republican ideology and was fully transformed into the new "no" ideology of the post Reagan Republicans. I find it no less daunting that President Obama is fraught with peril as he tries to learn the ropes of this new form of government we still think of as a democracy. But it is not a democracy. The only democratic election is that of the President, and that still isn't based upon the popular vote. All of our precious democracy is really a representative republic. It has nothing to do with democracy. Democracy says you get a vote in all questions that arise in the actions of the government, and we all know that isn't the case. Yeah, I'm pretty certain that I wouldn't want to be in President Obama's place right now, but if I were, I'd have to look at the writings of Sung Tzu and say that we still don't know enough about the enemy. And therein lies their strength. They play us like a well used violin as they did the Soviet Union, and that is what ended the same "Evil Empire" that President Reagan was praised for ending.

Thank you Michael Moore for

Thank you Michael Moore for telling President Obama what he seems to not want to hear. Obama won't listen to We The People until it is too late. He'll only hear us when he loses big time in polling numbers, but by then it will be too late. In the next election he will not get the votes of the Republican Neanderthals that he is courting, and he will not get the votes of the people who worked so hard to get him in the White House. Let's face it, we are already getting Bush's third term, why would anyone vote for a fourth?

Has everyone forgotten what

Has everyone forgotten what Barack Obama said during his campaign? : "As President, I would deploy at least two additional brigades to Afghanistan to re-enforce our counter-terrorism operations and support NATO's efforts against the Taliban. As we step up our commitment, our European friends must do the same, and without the burdensome restrictions that have hampered NATO's efforts. We must also put more of an Afghan face on security by improving the training and equipping of the Afghan Army and Police, and including Afghan soldiers in U.S. and NATO operations. We must not, however, repeat the mistakes of Iraq. The solution in Afghanistan is not just military -- it is political and economic. As President, I would increase our non-military aid by $1 billion. These resources should fund projects at the local level to impact ordinary Afghans, including the development of alternative livelihoods for poppy farmers. And we must seek better performance from the Afghan government, and support that performance through tough anti-corruption safeguards on aid, and increased international support to develop the rule of law across the country. Above all, I will send a clear message: we will not repeat the mistake of the past, when we turned our back on Afghanistan following Soviet withdrawal. .." I remember audiences cheering when those words were spoken...

You've been bought and sold.

You've been bought and sold. I am happy I am not an American, but very sad and very fearful of the future. Unfortunately what you do affects all the world. America has always been a staunch defender of its own interests, and as long as this was true it did many evils, but also some good. Now it seems to be firmly decided on sinking itself and the West with it. Do you still believe that democracy means compromising with those who hate its very principles? Free market. Less government. Less compassion. No healthcare. War on terror. Corporate friendly. One day, when you hear one of these sentences, you will lower your eyes in shame.

Obama must defy the

Obama must defy the military-congressional-industrial establishment. Afghanistan is our Oceana. It's straight out of Orwell: A faceless enemy which costs untold millions forever and ever. Looked at as a problem of industry, it is a sector that ought to be treated less like private business and more like firestations. Yes we want them on call & around when we need them, but NO we shouldn't be filling their hoses with gasoline in order to keep them in business.

Do not forgot us

Do not forgot us disillusioned cynics who dared to have a little hope and grudgingly voted for one of the corporatist parties. Once again a disillusioned cynic making sure my SPUSA and Green Party memberships have not lapsed.

We the people are only on

We the people are only on the minds of p0liticians when the election is near. Obama's campaign called and asked me to be a delegate from NY. Apparently based on something I had written to the candidate. This would have been the thrill of a lifetime for me. But I could not do it. I was already beginning to see from the people Obama was using as advisers (mainly too much of a connection to the U. of Chicago on economics) that he probably would not be a true agent of change. So, I turned them down. I still voted for him, but at least I don't feel quite the quilt and betrayal I would have it I had more formally put my name behind him. Honestly, at the age of 56 I have probably voted for the last time. Voting in America, except maybe at the local Village level is futile. And we wonder where terrorism comes from?

Great letter by Mike. Too

Great letter by Mike. Too bad no one is listening. This should bring down the empire - history is repeating.

Thank You Michael Moore. I

Thank You Michael Moore. I hope to God Obama is listening to the only constituents who matter: us, we the people. Get out of the way MacChrystal.

You're wasting your breath,

You're wasting your breath, Michael Moore. Obama was put in line for presidency way before we heard his name and he, like the rest of the mainstream politicians, is a corporate lackey. Support Dennis Kucinich. Let's get him elected because he really represents us. Charisma is not the ability to hoodwink everyone, as Obama has. Let's redefine charisma.

Agreed: Candidate Barack

Agreed: Candidate Barack Obama promised to deploy "at least two additional brigades to Afghanistan to re-enforce our counter-terrorism operations and support NATO's efforts against the Taliban. As we step up our commitment, our European friends must do the same," but we also thought that he would bring the illegal war on Iraq to an end and bring the troops home. If he does send more troops to Afghanistan, and keeps to his June target for deploying out of Iraq, he will meet some of our expectations. Can he fix the whole mess George and Dick created? Not in the first year, that's for sure.

Michael Moore, you learned

Michael Moore, you learned well (as a student of my brother-in-law). Too bad too many think you are way off base rather than seeing your often clear thinking on issues like health care, corporate domination and war. Of course our representative republic was formed based on the principle of one person/one vote... for landed gentlemen. Fortunately we later enfranchised the rest of our citizens including women, people of color and the poor. However, it is no longer what the voters of the individuals in this country say. We have allowed a system to develop wherein it is the "vote" of the corporate interests (and I include unions in this category) is primary. Through the "wonderfully" crafted system of legal bribes we reefer to as campaign finane, we have allowed them to take over our country. Well, if I am correct on this, then I think it is time that taxation be shifted from individuals (no taxation without representation) to "corporations." They dictate much of what happens in this country so let THEM pay for it. And to start, Mr President (and I am one who voted for you and still supports you, but with lessening faith), you can tell the energy companies that met with Cheney to fully fund the war effort in Iraq, and Unocal and other corporate entities wanting a stabilized Afghanistan to run their pipelines through to make even more profits to fund our effort in Afghanistan. And let them do so by not paying for our men and women in the military to do their dirty work, but let them hire the remnants of the Blackwater gang of thugs. Oh, wait... that could entail even more collateral damage.

The only thing Michael Moore

The only thing Michael Moore ever built was himself (big job) and support for liberals (ie, he marched people into the jaws of the demagogue Obama and he'll do it again). Face it. This is capitalism in decay; fascism rising not only from the top down, but as a mass, popular, many pronged movement. As Wayne Ross and I wrote long before the 2008 election, the government is an executive committee and armed weapon of the rich. There, they work out their differences, then allow us to choose which one of them will oppress us best. In "The Education Agenda is a War Agenda" Ross and I worked through why this is, and what to do about it. Stop begging. Start fighting. Good luck to us, every one---not you, Michael. You're rich.

I love ya, Michael, but we

I love ya, Michael, but we cannot just hand a country over to the Taliban, who would have Al Qaeda setting up training camps immediately. We were right to go into Afghanistan, and we should have finished the job there instead of invading Iraq. As a veteran, let me just remind people that the military is not a democracy, and we don't get to vote on how a war is waged. I trust that this President, unlike the last one, has listened to what his generals have to say, and will make the best of a very bad situation. Unless you have studied terrorism, low-intensity conflict, and Afghanistan for years, you don't really have an opinion - you have a fantasy.

In September of 1994

In September of 1994 Chevron, Unocal, and BP committed billions of dollars to an Afghan pipeline project to tap oil & gas in former Soviet republics and circumvent Russian control of European oil & gas supplies. Chevron's president at the time called this project "Chevron's biggest and most important project since the opening of Saudi Arabia about 50 years ago". One of the nations hosting a major section of the pipeline is guess who? Afghanistan. And Georgia too, which the Russians recently invaded during a failed coup attempt. Why do you think the US and the Israelis have large numbers of military advisers in Georgia and are supplying them with heavy armaments? And besides... When Grover Cleveland, a Democrat, ran for President in 1884, the general impression...was that he opposed the power of monopolies and corporations, and that the Republican party, whose candidate was James Blaine, stood for the wealthy. But when Cleveland defeated Blaine, Jay Gould wired him: "I feel...that the vast business interests of the country will be entirely safe in your hands." And was was right. Whether Democrats or Republicans won, national policy would not change in any important way. - Howard Zinn No need to be cynical Mr. Moore. It's all there in the history of nations. Ours included. The American War of Independence was fought for the same reasons; the interest of the many over the interests of an elitist few. Just wait till the fall-out from Dubai hits world markets and our economy continues to tumble. How many homeless Americans do you need before the possibility of open conflict becomes a reality?

Can I co-sign this letter???

Can I co-sign this letter???

I'm furious. Forget the

I'm furious. Forget the down, disillusioned, blah blah - I am incensed. This man knows better; a good wrap party would be the ticket. Looks like Obama has sunk his goose early on. Dang his hide. My blind son is very, very bitter about this move, as worried as he is about his buddies who are still over there.

Until the full truth behind

Until the full truth behind Bush`s crimes are brought into the open neither Congress or President Obama should be allowed to further these activities lest they become co-defendants in the trials Obama dreads coming to bare AND BARE THEY MUST else-wise the Tea Beck followers will spill more blood in the streets BRING THE TROOPS HOME AND THOSE CRIMINALS TO JUSTICE BEFORE THE REST OF THE WORLD TURNS OUR NATION INTO POST NAZI GERMANY!

Michael, I guess you forgot:

Michael, I guess you forgot: Obama already became the war president when he esclaated the Afghan war in March.

One of the best pleas for

One of the best pleas for help I've ever heard. We do need your help Mr. President. Help us out of our shame of the eight years before you took office. Help us overcome the indignation of the world for the arrogance, greed and bullying of little tiny countries populated by brown people. Help us grow into the first nation to rely on predominantly green energy instead if fossil fuels. Help us hold our head high again as a nation the leads by moral example and not by threat and intimidation. Or, you will be a one term failure and the right wing nut jobs will dance on your farewell speech in 1012 saying they knew a black man couldn't handle a white man's job. Afghanistan is no threat to the US. Osama, who had nothing to do with 9/11, (check the FBI most wanted list), is not there. Work here to stop heroine addiction so that little country filled with poppies dries up and goes away.

I have an odd thought, and

I have an odd thought, and this seems to be the article to voice it on. I have another possible reason why we are still at war. [Beyond the obvious fact that the military-industrial complex tail is wagging the dog of our government.] We've trained all of these young people to kill and sent them back over and over until they're riddled with PTSD and other problems. If we bring them all home tomorrow, what then? There are no jobs for them, any more then there are jobs for those of us seeking here and now. There is little if any health care waiting to treat their wounds. Perhaps it's just a matter of keeping them busy until the economy recovers. And if it never recovers, making war seems to be the only thing America is good at anymore. Sorry if that sounds heartless, but I've noticed how common it is for people at the top to see those under their command as commodities or potential threats rather then individuals. And there is so much money and power at stake here. I can't help but wonder, if Obama defied them all, if something unfortunate wouldn't happen to him before he could implement it. Remember, conspiracy comes from the Latin 'conspire'- to breathe together. It's not a dirty word and it only takes two to do it.

When you screw things up as

When you screw things up as bad as Bush then you will forever own those things. Antique shop rules. "You broke it you bought it!"

As I've said before on this

As I've said before on this website, I'm not voting for him next time. I live in Tennessee, where it doesn't matter how I vote. Too many f-ing idiots in this state that drink the kool aid by the gallon and vote for the likes of Wamp, Alexander and Corker. Anyway, as I said, I'm not voting for him next time.

I too have voted my last. I

I too have voted my last. I no longer care who prevails in elections. The winners are always the rich and big business. The losers are always the average man, the working stiff, and our children. And I refuse any more jury duty summons. We do not have a system of justice any longer. I will not be a part of the joke we call "justice". Justice would have resulted in convictions for treason at the highest levels by members of the past administration. Nothing will be done to these criminals despite the fact that our Constitution demands it. Obama is bound by oath, sworn to God, to uphold our Constitution. His defense is that he wants to look forward, rather than focus on the past. Great idea ... let Charles Manson out of prison. Why should we continue to focus on the past? We need to look to the future. And what future might that be? Imagine your worst nightmare magnified a million times and you might be close. I am utterly disgusted by this fleecing of America by our elected. You suck.

It is the night before the

It is the night before the speech and all are very anxious, A meager, thimble of hope conjured A glimmer of a chance in the improbable I will dream tonight, that I fretted for naught But Michael Moore is usually so spot on the know Tomorrow night's slumber might be nil For the deadly words might have been spoken More war, more blood, more despair, less hope. God(?) will forget the USA.

Only 30,000 more troops? A

Only 30,000 more troops? A piker's option. Send them ALL. Empty all our foreign garrisons, our bases here at home & send everybody in uniform over there. The Navy doesn't need a contingent of marines on every ship. Send them. Dump the entire military into the mountain & deserts of Afghanistan & make 'em stay "until the job is done." Nobody comes home until the war is over. Victory or death. No more whining & lame excuses from the military as in after Viet-Nam about blaming it on Jane Fonda & the politicians & not enough troops & they tied our hands. If the military wants more war in Afghanistan let them have it. The Generals want more stuff with which to fight? Make them use everything they already have first. Close the 300+ golf courses that the military maintains around the world for their officer class & use the 1.5 billion to fight the war. Win or perish, bigmouth. Put up or shut up. Win or fall on your swords. Just don't come home with another tale of failure.

Just say no, Barack, just

Just say no, Barack, just say no more troops for Afghanistan. Then tell those tough generals to find Osama wherever he is and bring him to trial in a U.S. federal court. You need to get busy on a WPA-style jobs program and universal health care and salvaging public education. It's not like all there is to do is War. There's Work -- and you were elected by a huge margin to do it. Go forward.

And I thought people from

And I thought people from Chicago at least stab you in the front, anyway.

When Obama is ready to send

When Obama is ready to send his two girls over there to go to the best schools they can afford and prepare to graduate to being immediately able to join in the effort, then and only then, should he commit one more soldier.

Here's what I would add to

Here's what I would add to Mr. Moore's to-the -point letter: "Yes, Mr. President, you are doing exactly what you said you would do about Afganistan during your campaign but, since you've broken just about every other promise you made during that time, why not break this one? Once, just once, I'd like to hear something from you besides eloquent, meaningless word noise".

Elections aren't pointless.

Elections aren't pointless. If America hadn't elected Bush, we wouldn't be talking about this. We probably wouldn't be in Iraq either. Obama is the only proof we have that democracy isn't completely dead. I don't agree with more war either and I can't defend this action either but I am not going to vote for a worse politician next time. If Obama finishes Afghanistan, that would be something. Take a hard look and give Obama a chance.

Dear Mike, Here's a

Dear Mike, Here's a documentary topic for you: George Soros. It looks like Barack Obama is serving his interests and not those of the American people. Certainly, he is not serving my interests in getting us mired in Afghanistan. And I doubt the tea-baggers care on way or another as long as our troops aren't trashed, like Soros did by declaring defeat on the field. For my part, I always thought that we should, if we waged war at all, just depose and leave. That would have had us out by 2001 for Afghanistan and 2003 in Iraq. But no! Bush had to start this damn fool "nation building" business and Soros had to link that up to the reputation of our troops. Now Soros' boy is in the White House and he is doing what in Afghanistan? It smells like opium. Regards, Carl Peter Klapper

Sadly, I too feel no need to

Sadly, I too feel no need to ever vote in a general election again. Futility is phucked up. However, I am neither surprised nor disappointed by Obama. He made his intentions very clear during his campaign. If progessives had listned to me, Dennis Kucinich would be our president today. People said he could not win. I say, an election is not a horse race, you don't pick a winner, you make one. Just think, Cheney and Bush would be charged with the crimes they are clearly guilty of just for openers. The war in Iraq would be over as well as the war in Afghanistan, and we would have universal health care now. (deep heavy sigh)

Well, Michael . . . 5 years

Well, Michael . . . 5 years ago, when you were struggling to be heard over the din of NeoCon bluster, who would've thought you could generate such an amazing amount of discussion, just in one day?! You kept on; eventually, the Lotus Eaters MUST awaken, because you just keep on. Always an inspiration, Michael; we will keep on, too. Those Lotus Eaters can be unpleasant when you wake them, taking their discomfiture out on the "Messenger", but the good part is, some will prefer to remain awake, and some of them will be motivated to act. Thanks, as always.

We all know there are no

We all know there are no military solutions to problems. Look at what happened in Iraq. Look at what is happening in the Middle East. Look at what is happening in the Congo. Millions are dying there. But the US spends more than 500 billion dollars (half of what the whole world spends) a year for its military. It has some 750 military bases around the world. And its fleets ply all the oceans of the world. What is all this for? Imperialism is the answer. And until it bankrupts itself doing it, that will continue. Because that's the name of the game. There are tremendous interests involved. And no president, Obama or no Obama can do anything about it. Afghanistan is just one piece of the puzzle. And the puzzle is big. Very big. ...

Maybe I was just confused

Maybe I was just confused but it seemed to me back in the fight for the Democratic nomination that one of the major distinctions Obama made between himself and Hillary was that she'd voted for the war and he wouldn't have (because at that time he wasn't even in a position to vote), implying he was anti-war. Does anyone else remember that? I'm sure I saw Michael Moore endorsing Obama over Hillary for that very reason! I didn't believe Obama and voted for Kucinich, but when Obama won I expected him to end the war as well as do something about war crimes. Of course Obama has shown us on pretty much every front that the 'change we can believe in' was pretty rhetoric. We need bold action, not just bold words. What's the point of fighting terrorism anyway if we're living a shitty life here? The audacity of hope is just right for the crowning Obama message - very audacious since he has managed, with his pumping up of hope, to disillusion more people than any other politician.

@Frances: This is some

@Frances: This is some encouragement to the perpetually ignored Populist. Maybe someday, somebody will listen to me, too, and I will have to relinquish my title of being the "Cassandra of American Politics".

What I said back in 2008

What I said back in 2008 (and earlier but this is a link from 2008): http://www.carlpeterklapper.org/DeposeAndLeave.html So, no, I never for a moment thought that Obama would pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Taliban and Al Qaeda,

Taliban and Al Qaeda, American's are so scared of you. Neither caused 911, including Iraq. American's know nothing. Very sad. The American oil cartel has brainwashed this country. BTW, MM, rocks.

Hang on, you're not happy

Hang on, you're not happy when pulling out of a war, then not happy going into one. If Obama had suddenly said that he was completely pulling out of Afghanistan tomorrow, he'd have been branded as supporting terrorism and letting down the US troops that have died out there, so be carryiong on the war he's only doing what you, the voters wanted! Look at what happened when he proposed free healthcare, he was suddenly branded a communist! I don't agree with the war, but his support of it is predictable. look at what happened to Kennedy... Americans really need to get a grip and decide what you want, and stop being hijacked by the right wing, you're better than that...

What is he going to do with

What is he going to do with his Nobel peace prize ?. I what position the Nobel Peace Academy will be left ?.

Will this nightmare ever

Will this nightmare ever end? We are STILL spiraling down the black hole of insanity..... Some how, someone, someway we have to reverse the direction we are heading. How can anyone expect things to change if we keep approaching our problems (and we have many) the same way. Over and over again, the same.

It's the day after. OK he

It's the day after. OK he did it. We are going to dump our treasures in a winnless war. Now Osama bin Laden is laughing his ass off. Even if we manage to kill him he will die a happy martyr. We are fools and took his bait hook line and sinker !! I feel so sorry for our young men, women and their families. What a tragic waste. God bles them !!

Why all the fuss? Obomber

Why all the fuss? Obomber told us exactly where he stood and how he would prosecute the Afghan war, including going after those chimerical "insurgents" in Pakistan. How anyone was delusional enough to think he was going to suddenly start strewing rose petals around I do not know. The sad and frightening conclusion here is that the American people, taken as a whole, are incredibly, unbelievably, amazingly stupid!

Where are the anti war

Where are the anti war protesters during the Bush years now? I thought that anti war protesters protested against ANY president no MATTER who their political leanings are and yet they are not even there? Is this hypocrisy at its highest? Where are the true patriots that despise ANY wars?
